Agrifac’s innovative and compact 6-row Quatro sugar beet harvester successfully negotiated some of the oldest parts of London, UK, on Saturday 12th November as it took part in the 684th Lord Mayors Show. The event, which has been held every year since its inception without fail, celebrates the City of London’s new mayor introducing himself to the people.
As part of the celebration parade, Agrifac worked with the Worshipful Company of Farmers, British Sugar and the NFU to promote not only the UK sugar industry but farming in general. Fitted with banners highlighting how important the sugar beet crop is to the UK farming economy, the Quatro was driven past such landmarks as Mansion House, St. Pauls Cathedral and St Clement Danes church on its way around the route.
Driven by Suffolk farmer and contractor Peter Butler, who is a long-term Agrifac owner and current owner of a Big Six harvester, along with Agrifac UK’s Ben Painter. The Quatro was also decked out with speakers which enabled the NFU’s Mike Thomas to speak to the mass crowds on how the machine worked, what it did, how sugar beet is turned into sugar and how important the crop was to UK farming.
Peter Butler said of the experience: “What a great day and an experience that will happen once in a lifetime.” James Lane of Agrifac UK added: “We are very proud to have taken part in this event, and despite some last minute decisions over which harvester would be used, we feel that this has not only exposed Agrifac to the public, but it has also shown the public what investment is needed by UK sugar growers and farmers to produce good quality, affordable food.”
